Area

Excellent local restaurants include the Scafell Hotel in Rosthwaite and Langstrath Hotel in Stonethwaite – both a short walk away. There is a public bar at the Scafell hotel which serves bar meals. The Longthwaite Youth Hostel has an excellent bar and meals can be ordered in advance.

Alternatively try the local Herdwick lamb from the Flock In shop in Rosthwaite.

Keswick offers a wide variety of food shops, outdoor equipment shops, a theatre and cinema along many other attractions. Keswick Market is held in Market Square on Thursdays Feb-Dec and every Saturday, with a large variety of stalls.

There is a good bus service between Longthwaite and Keswick. Half hourly, you can catch the 78 from the stop at the Stonethwaite crossroads of the B5289, getting off outside Booths supermarket. To return to Longthwaite, catch the same bus 78 outside Booths and get off at the Stonethwaite crossroads, the house is 5 mins walk down the lane signposted ‘Youth Hostel’. There can be large traffic cues at the entrance to Keswick from Borrowdale in the afternoons so its worth planning your journey to avoid these times if possible.
